Dear Friends and Neighbors,

We are down to the final 15 days of this year’s 60-day legislative session.

Last week marked House of Origin cutoff, the deadline for bills to pass out of the chamber where they were introduced. Hundreds of bills did not make it, including many sponsored by the majority that would have made Washington more expensive and less safe.

I’m proud House Republicans were able to defeat bills that would have increased the cost of housing, clothing, groceries, electricity and tires. We also stopped proposals that would have lowered criminal sentences, reduced penalties for drug and gang crimes, weakened sex offender registration requirements and prevented local governments from removing dangerous homeless encampments.

That required work. House Republicans filed 593 amendments before cutoff, far above the average for short sessions. We forced debate and demanded detailed defenses of these proposals. On cutoff day, a bill that would have released dangerous juvenile offenders was brought forward late in the afternoon. After more than 60 amendments were filed and support collapsed, it was pulled from the floor and died.

House Republicans have done everything in our power this session to fight for you and stop bad bills. In fact, fewer bills have passed at this point in the session than at any time since 2011, the earliest year for which data is available.

But the fight is not over.

Many of the majority’s bills that are still advancing rely on the same approach that has contributed to Washington’s challenges with affordability, public safety, homelessness, housing, energy reliability, transportation and education. Rest assured, Republicans will continue fighting to stop harmful policies, improve bills where we can, and work to make our state safer and more affordable.

I encourage you to stay engaged. Join us in the fight on X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube and share our posts. Public involvement has shaped this session, and it will matter even more in these final days.

It is an honor to serve you.

Warmly,

Drew Stokesbary
